I include this cemetery, even though it is not in Palm Beach County, because of the mass grave from the 1928 hurricane. Port Mayaca Cemetery was created as a result of the 1928 hurricane. Thousands of people killed during the hurricane were brought in by rail car and buried in a mass grave. A photo from the 1928 hurricane shows some of the devastation left in the wake of the storm, which killed thousands. Out of that disaster was born the Okeechobee Flood Control District and the first section of the Herbert Hoover Dike.
